Description
The woods at Cuturi are an intrinsic part of the nature reserves, in addition to being a remainder of the ancient maquis - also known as the Forest of Oritana - which covered a large part of the Ionian Salento area up until the 16 century. The woods consist of a high forest of holm oaks with dense, shrubby Mediterranean maquis undergrowth. The forest, with its vegetation, is an ideal habitat for numerous animal species such as foxes, hedgehogs, barn owls and little owls.
